5th Meeting

5th Meeting

This meeting was based upon the final review of the project. This gave the group a chance to express anything that went wrong with the project whilst they researched, planned and designed the website. We also discussed the previous meeting and decided if there were any issues with the minutes of the previous meeting. We said the minutes of the previous meeting were slight vague and needed to be more detailed. The questions we asked each group member are as follows:

  • Strengths during the project
  • Weaknesses during the project
  • What lessons you learned during the project

This is what we found:

Amy – Amy said that overall her project went really well and she is pleased with the final website and her pages she created. She felt that she was strong in the following of the gantt chart, planning what she had to do and implementing her plans into her project. Things she said that were weak was her testing of the website and she felt that she could of taken more time to research also. She said she learned valuable lessons about teamwork but she said she would like to get more involved in group discussions if she were to complete a similar task.

IG – IG said that he was strong in CSS field of Adobe Dreamweaver and he got to grips with it really quickly. He felt that this was reflected in his final product. IG said that his weaknesses were mainly getting work in on time and printing the gantt chart. IG said that he learned new skills such as using Adobe Dreamweaver and learning how to convert videos.

Victoria – Victoria said that she her strengths were getting involved in group discussions and producing good ideas for the team. She said her weaknesses were keeping up with deadlines and using CSS in Adobe Dreamweaver. Victoria said that she would like to make her time keeping more realistic and put more effort in when completing evaluations.

Dean (myself) – I said that my strengths were designing the web pages and making them look professional. I also said that my strengths were my evaluations and my time keeping was generally good. I said my weaknesses were keeping to the gantt chart and the hyperlinks needed to be improved. I said that I learned lessons like leaderships skills within a group and maintaining a good attitude towards group members and helping them when I can.

A.O.B - No other business was discussed.

4th Meeting

4th meeting

This meeting was based upon the review of the progress whilst completing the project. Each group member was asked three separate questions in relation to their performance throughout the whole project. These questions were

  • Progress in project in relation to your gantt chart
  • Skills Issues
  • Any Problems or issues

This is what we found:

Amy – Amy said that she followed the gantt chart very closely and it was a good idea to have one of these because she knew what she was doing and she could always refer back to the gantt chart to see where she was at in relation to the process of designing her web pages. She said that she did not have any issues with the CSS in Adobe Dreamweaver as she has previous experience with the software due to her taking AS Design. She also has experience in Adobe Fireworks too. Amy said that she did have some problems when implementing videos to her web pages and she had some trouble with the slideshows too.

IG – IG said that the gantt chart was not very helpful and he said that because the unit was quite crammed the gantt chart was not very relevant to what he was doing and the times that he completed each task. The gantt chart did however help him outline what tasks he had to complete. IG said that he did not have a lot of skills issues as he picked up on thing quite well. He did have some trouble with the hyperlinks when implementing them onto his web pages but he used his own initiative to help him improve this. IG said that there were no other issues he would like to discuss apart from his timing predictions, they were a little unrealistic.

Victoria – Victoria said that her gantt chart was fairly easy to follow because she made a good gantt chart that was realistic and she could follow it. She said that some issues got in the way of her tasks and she did fall behind at times. This was corrected by communication with other members of the group and catching up on work at home. Victoria said that she had some issues with some of her skills. At first she had some issues with CSS as she didn’t have previous experience with Adobe Dreamweaver. She asked out subject teacher to help and she used her own initiative to help improve her CSS skills. Victoria said that she had no other issues.

Dean (myself) – I said that my gantt chart was a well-structured document that would help me outline the task that needed to be completed and I made a good gantt chart to follow. I said that I did fall behind on some tasks due to some issues, which prevented us working at college. I said that there were some skills issues with my project. This was that I had a lot of trouble getting to grips with CSS because I had no previous experience with Adobe Dreamweaver and I needed to find out more about the software. I used my own initiative to find this out by using the Internet the Dreamweaver guide and asking my subject teacher. I said that there were no other issues that I needed to mention.

A.O.B – No other business was discussed.

3rd Meeting

This meeting was based on the common styled that were to be applied to the website. After the interview with Bert Wallis it was clear what he wanted and the group came away and started to plan out what type of features Bert wanted the website to include. Some of the common styles that were going to be applied were:

  • Simple fonts nothing too fancy
  • Good use of colour
  • Make sure logo is included and this links back to the home page
  • Videos included
  • Slideshows included
  • Videos included

These were just some of the features that Bert Wallis wanted to include on his web page. After the interview it was important that we went away and planned everything out and wrote every task down that needed to be completed. The group also completed a sketch of the homepage so we could have a finalised plan of what we it would look like. This included the layout and structure of the home page and the different components it should include.

A.O.B – No other business was discussed.

2nd Meeting

The second meeting was about the proposed pages we were going to create. It was important that we allocated a certain number of pages for each group member. The group chairman allocated each team member 3 different pages that they were going to create. Each member of the team suggested what type of page they would like to create. It was compulsory that each team member completed 2 artist pages and 1 page of their own choice. I chose to design the feedback page and 2 artist pages. The 2 artist pages were about printmaking and the feedback page was designed for the users to fill out and give their thoughts on the website that we had created. The team members chose to do these pages:

Victoria - Contact Us
IG - Extra Information
Amy - News Feed
Dean - Feedback page

The team also drew a website structure diagram to make it easier to see exactly what pages each member of the team was going to create. This document was then printed out and given to each team member to put in their portfolio. Secondly, the group decided as a team how the pages were going to be interlinked and what pages lead to the other pages.

E-mail sent to Bert Wallis

We sent an e-mail to Bert Wallis asking for more information on the company and more ideas about creating the website. This was sent from my email adress to his e-mail adress: deanrutherford25@yahoo.com >> berwallis@palmers.ac.uk

Here is what was sent to Bert Wallis.

"Dear Mr Wallis,
Regarding the interview previously this week, I would like to ask if it would be possible to gain some further information. This is basically regarding what design features would you like on the website and could you please further explain the format and layout af your company and how they operate. Thankyou for your time.
Kind Regards
Dean Rutherford"

This e-mail to Bert Wallis was very appropriate because the group needed to find out extra information about how he wanted the website to look. This was essential because we needed to find out absoloutley everything that was needed to we could make a full and extensive plan of what we needed to do. This information we acquired proved useful becasue the end product actually looked like, what the client had asked for.

Interview with Bert Wallis

This interview consisted of interviewing Bert Wallis to gain ideas for the making of the website. We asked relevant questions that would enable us to gather the right information to create the website such as "Do you want the company logo to link back to the home page?"
Other question included "what colour schemes would you like to use?" and "would you like videos on the website?"
These types of questions were relevant becasue they helped the group to draw up a plan of tasks of what we were going to design. These questions also helped us produce our own individual gantt charts which would in effect, help us design the web pages we were allocated and it would give it more structure.
The responses from the interview were typed up by the minutes secetary - IG.

We contructed the questioned that we were going to ask Bert Wallis prior to the interview. We did this by brainstorming the appropriate questions we should ask Bert. We needed to find out the main things that a client would want like font style, headings, navigation and so forth. We constructed roughly about 20 questions that would cover all of the aspects of the website design.

1st Meeting

Our first meeting that the group had outlined the websites that we researched. For example, I researched John Buck and Eagle Gallery Artist. Victoria researched artists in Devon and Cornwall and Amy researched Kate Denton and Deirdre Hubbard. We then outlined the good and bad points from each website that we researched individually and recorded these in the minutes of the meeting. Good points were things like "nice home page" and "good links or navigation". Bad points included things like "too much colour" and "Buttons were awkward". We then said from the evaluation of the websites, what would we include in our website that we are making. These include things like "same font colour and font size"

We found that the majority of the websites we had researched all have a clear and constructive navigation menus for the website. The group decided that this would be necessary for the website we were going to create. We also found that some of the websites we reasearched had videos and slideshows on them for the sampling of the artists work. We decided to use this on our website because we thought it would be a good idea and it would make it look professional. Lastly, we found that most websites include a short biography about the artist. We felt that we could use this in our wesbite to make this the main content of the web pages. This would be a good idea because we wanted to make sure the user understood fully about the artist and thier work and who influenced them.

A.O.B = (Any other business) - there was no any other business to report.

IG was absent for this meeting.
